Trip to Sugarloaf Vineyard

On one of our recent weekly trips, we visited one of our splendid local attractions, The Sugarloaf Vineyard just outside Abergavenny.

Under azure skies more akin to the South of France, our residents sampled both white and red wines in sight of the bulky sweep of the Blorange Mountain, whose majestic etymology, wouldn’t you know, is supposedly taken from Cecil Frances Humphrey’s famous hymn, All Things Bright and Beautiful. In the fourth verse the words, “The purple headed mountain, the river running by…” I don’t know about purple but certainly a dense luscious green in the fullness of summer; perfect and timeless to gaze upon over a cold, lemony crisp glass of Welsh wine. We will return and have done so, autumn and winter, the colours of the vines and the beautiful landscape through the seasons not to be missed by anyone, especially as it’s on one’s doorstep and such a great attraction to the area…
